About four hands plus

Welcome to four hands plus, the new website dedicated to piano ensemble music. We will be commissioning new works and arrangements as well as making long out-of-print piano ensemble music (both originals and arrangements) available again. There has always been a steady interest in this medium despite difficulties in obtaining material from the huge catalogues that were available.  We feel it's time to bring this repertoire into the public domain again and introduce a whole new generation of players to its delights.

We have two new and exciting innovations. First is a graded series of anthologies of duets for novice and intermediate players called 'Two at a Time'.  There will be five books available in the series, organised in increasing difficulty.  They have been selected and edited by Graeme Humphrey, a long-time champion and teacher of this material. The second innovation will be a series of books for six hands at one piano called 'Three at a Time'.

We are also very pleased to make available arrangements of a number of Haydn's String Quartets in new transcriptions by Professor Robin Holloway, a long-time piano duet enthusiast. Professor Holloway has arranged some 30 of the quartets (except the 15 which were available from Peters Edition and the works of Haydn's youth).

The 'Two at a Time', 'Three at a Time' and the Haydn/Holloway editions will be supplied wiro bound, printed on 90gsm white cartridge, with covers on 220gsm board making them both hard wearing and long lasting.  Other editions will be printed on 100gsm white paper, with covers on 160gsm board, also wiro bound.
