four hands plus is a website dedicated to music for four hands or more, at one or more pianos. You will find many exciting collections of neglected piano ensemble music including previously out-of-print pupil/teacher material, well known classical masterpieces, arrangements of great orchestral and chamber music classics and specially commissioned music.
Graeme Humphrey (teacher and professor of piano at the Royal Academy of Music) has devised an innovative new series of graded piano duets called ‘Two at a Time’ which once again makes available superb, long out-of-print and forgotten early piano duet teaching material based on the pupil/teacher relationship. Also included are specially composed pieces by Christopher Norton (author of the celebrated Microjazz series) and John Kember (composer of the On the Lighter Side duet series). You will also find new complete editions of long-out-of-print duet classics by John Kinross and Leon d’Ourville available once again, with more keenly sought teaching material to follow. A companion series called ‘Three at a Time’ for six hands at one piano is in preparation.
four hands plus is also publishing new arrangements of Haydn String Quartets for piano duet by Professor Robin Holloway (Professor of Music at Cambridge University), a long-time duet enthusiast.

Now available, a selection of pieces from Leon d'Ourville's Soirees Musicales. Here is an excerpt from the introductory notes:
"The circumstances of Léon d’Ourville’s life and times remain shrouded in mystery. Although the Soirées Musicales originally appeared in print over one hundred years ago, it is, at the time of writing, impossible to find any hard evidence about when or where d’Ourville lived; indeed nothing can be presently reported concerning anything to do with his life or circumstances.
The musical style of these masterpieces is essentially that of Schumann – the titles all suggest a fascination with people and places (The Reaper’s Song and In the Garden), moods and nature (Slumber Song and The Lake). The harmonic and melodic invention is of a particularly high order, and the compositions themselves could easily be passed as being by Schumann, such is the craftmanship and sensitivity on display. "
